Individual Online Tech Assistance
There is no charge for the first two 30 minute sessions for those who have purchased a computer or had a computer revitalized. Otherwise the cost is $15 at the beginning of every 30 minute session. Call Keith Holmes at 785.823.0243 to arrange a meeting. He can demonstrate using his screen. Or, he can connect remotely to your computer. To connect remotely he will walk you through the steps below.
Linux/Ubuntu
Download the file “Remote Installer“. By default the file “STB_CSRS_Ubuntu_v3.7.2.0_amd64.tar.gz” will be in your “Downloads” folder.
- Right click on the above file name and choose “Extract”.
- A new folder will open “STB_CSRS_Ubuntu_v3.7.2.0_amd64”. Open (double click) the folder.
- Right click on the file “Splashtop_Streamer_Ubuntu_amd64.deb” and choose “Open” with “App Center”.
- Click on “Install” and then click on “Install” again that this is what you want to do.
- Enter the password for your computer and wait for the installation to finish.
- Enter the code “Y3SWL4Y72PP7” (no quotes).
Windows and McIntosh
- Go to https://sos.splashtop.com.
- Download and run/install the little program file.
- Contact Keith with the 9 digit number.
Keith will be able to connect to your computer and provide online technical assistance.

Scan Documents for Viruses using ClamTK
- Download File “clamtk_6.18-1_all.deb
- From the Ubuntu Downloads Folder
- Right click on file and install using App Center

- Desktop Shortcut for Application
- Go to: Files > Other Locations > Ubuntu > usr > share > applications
- Choose the application and copy
- Go to the desktop and paste
- Right click on shortcut and choose “Allow Launching
- Rename the Label for an Application
- Click on the “Show Apps” icon on far right on dock. Search (top) for “Menu Editor”
- If “Menu Editor” is not available install “MenuLibre” from the “App Center” icon
- Open the “Menu Editor”
- From the “Search” field at the top of the window type in the application to edit the name.
- Click on the name of the application and edit the name. Press the “Enter” key.
- Exit out of the window.
- Click on the “Show Apps” icon on far right on dock. Search (top) for “Menu Editor”
- Desktop Shortcut for URL – Web Site Address using Google Chrome Browser
- In the upper right corner of the browser click on the three vertical dots
- In the drop down menu, 4th section, click on “Cast, save, and share” > click on “Create shortcut…” > type in the name you want for the shortcut > click “Create”
- Go to your Desktop and right click on new shortcut > click on “Allow Launching”
- Desktop Shortcut Rename the Label for a File
- Right click on the file >. Choose “Rename”
- Enter the new name
- Click the “Rename” button

- This works for Google Meet and Zoom. Linux/Ubuntu users do not use a USB headset connection for Zoom. There will be no audio.
- A USB webcam will work with Zoom (video and sound).
